The Stony Plain Eagles made the trip down the QE2 Saturday night for a face-off with the Lacombe Generals at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex and used a three-goal first period to help propel them to a convincing 5-1 victory.
Captain Chad Hohmann continued his hot streak around the net opening the scoring just over three minutes into the game beating Generals goaltender Mackenzie Engel. Scott Glennie and Nick Leyer also tallied first period goals for the Eagles.
Both teams scored in the middle frame, with Glennie adding his second goal of the night, giving the Eagles a 4-1 lead with 20 minutes left to play.
The third period saw the Eagles put on a defensive clinic, shutting down any Generals offence and solidifying a 5-1 win.
Leyer ended up with a three-point night, while Kruise Reddick and Alex Marrocco both had a pair of assists.
Goaltender Wyatt Hoflin was stellar between the pipes, making key saves throughout the game enroute to a 38-save performance.
The Eagles next game is this Saturday when they head north to take on the Westlock Warriors.
