The Eagles hung on to defeat the Devon barons in a tightly contested game at the Glenn Hall Arena on Saturday night.
After mustering 14 shots on goal in the first period, the Eagles were able to find the back of the net twice; courtesy of Will Tomchuk and Eric Pernell. Eagles Goaltender Colton Iwaschuk made 12 saves to blank the Barons during the opening frame.
The Eagles controlled the majority of the second period yet again, with goals from Grayson Pawlenchuk and Dylan Kelly. However, the Barons were able to find their way on the scoreboard with a power-play goal halfway through the frame. Despite being outshot 26-25, the Eagles went into the dressing room with a comfortable three-goal lead.
That comfortable lead quickly evaporated for the Eagles, as the Barons scored three unanswered goals in the opening ten minutes of the third period to tie up the game. Just over a minute later, the Eagles found their momentum once again as Pawlenchuk netted his second of the game. With the seconds ticking down and the goaltender pulled for an extra attacker, the Barons shocked the Glenn Hall Arena with the game tying goal with just under a minute left to play.
Overtime saw each team with high quality chances until Pawlenchuk completed his hat-trick and sealed a 6-5 home win for the Eagles.
The Eagles next game will be January 25th at home when they face the Innisfail Eagles at the Glenn Hall Arena... Game time is 7:45 pm.
