EAGLES KICK OFF 2025 WITH WIN OVER BRUINS

Jan. 07, 2025

The Eagles rung in the new year with a win in a tightly contested game at the Glenn Hall Arena against the Camrose Bruins!

The first period saw the Eagles come out flying creating a slew of dangerous offensive opportunities but the Bruins goalie Curtis Skip stood on his head stopping numerous point blank shots.

The Bruins struck first at the 8 minute mark of 1st period. The Bruins goal ignited the Eagles with Brennan Franks answering quickly with a goal mouth tap created by a great individual effort from Eric Perneel less than a minute after the bruins scored then 30 seconds later Blake Grainger potted his 8th goal of the season off a rebound point shot from Jordan Pink. The Eagles finished the first period with a 2-1 leade after firing 19 shots on the Bruins.

The second period saw much of the same. The Eagles poured on the chances with the Bruins goalie skip doing his best to close the door. New comer Dylan Kelly scored his first goal for the Eagles in his first game from a bullet shot in the slot from a slick behind the net pass by a rushing Kyle Lipinski to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead. The Bruins would not go away, with the help of their goaltender the Bruins were able to tie the game with 2 goals in the second period to send the teams tied heading into the third period. It was a fast and furious 2nd with Eagles recording 23 shots to the Bruins 16 shots. Eagles goaltender Wyatt Hoflin made many key saves to keep the game tied.

The third period saw both teams pressing hard for the go ahead goal. It wasn't until the mid way point of the third period that Eagles defenseman Kyle Lipinski jumped into the offensive zone from blue line driving the back post where Eagles forward Nick Leyer was able to send a cross ice pass perfectly onto his tape to give the Eagles the lead. The physicality ramped up and tempers flared through the third period, with 12 penalty's being called between the two teams. Things got real interesting late in the game with Eagles having to buckle down and kill a 5 on 3 penalty in the last 3 minutes. Again, Eagles goaltender Wyatt Hoflin stepped up to make some key saves to secure the win for the Eagles.

Final shots were 50 to 35 in the Eagles favour.

The Eagles next game will be January 18th at home when they face the Devon Barons at the Glenn Hall Arena, game time is 7:45 pm.
