Atom AA Predators - Hockey Alberta Provincial Champions & 1660 Atom 1 League Champions

The Stony Plain Atom AA Predators faced all types of adversity during last weekend's Provincial Championship with suspensions, illness and injuries. They posted 3 wins and a tie during the round robin to finish 1st in their pool and after a 6-1 semi final victory they set their eyes on their season long goal of Gold. The Predators played a hard game but could not solve the Fort Saskatchewan goaltender. After going down 4-2 with 8 minutes to go, the never say die team stepped up to score 2 goals in the last 3 minutes of regulation time. At 7 minutes of the 1st overtime period the Predators scored to win Stony Plain Minor Hockey's first ever AA Provincial Championship.

When Head Coach and former Eagle Brad Kronewitt was asked about the team he said, "It is amazing to find eighteen 9 and 10 year olds that truly understand the meaning of team. They battled through the pain and played for each other, not for themselves. We can all take a lesson from them. They are a special group of kids."

Peewee 2 Predators – 1660 Peewee 4 Silver Medalists

Although Fort Saskatchewan had the league best record during the regular season. Our Stony Plain team continued to improve throughout the entire season. Dedication, hard work and a team commitment to focused effort at practice, coupled with weekly Dryland training with Stanley Cup Winner, Norm Lacombe, our Stony Plain Predator team was in great shape and well prepared for the League Gold Medal series.

The Predators held the strong Fort Sask. team off the scoreboard for the first period of Game 1. Tied at 1 after 2 periods of play, but the Fort Sask. team proved too strong and ended in a 5 2 loss.

Game 2 back in Fort Sask. tied at 1 after 1. The Fort Sask. team dominated the next 2 periods and came out with the 6 2 win.

Our Stony Plain Predator Team continued their clean hard working style of play, being the least penalized team going late into the playoffs.

The team displayed tremendous sportsmanship and class throughout the season including the Gold medal series.
