The Town of Stony Plain is a dynamic and growing community located 17 kilometres west of Edmonton on Highway 16A. Stony Plain has a population of over 10,000 and services a surrounding population of almost 60,000 people.

THE TOWN WITH THE PAINTED PAST
Stony Plain is a community that cherishes its history, which dates back to the arrival of the first homesteader in 1881. The area was known as Dog Rump Creek until 1892 when a post office was named for the region and it became Stony Plain. In 1907, Stony Plain's first Sheriff, Israel Umbach, made national headlines when he chained a locomotive to the railway tracks for non-payment of taxes. Stony Plain was officially incorporated as a town in 1908. The community's history is kept alive through its outdoor art gallery of 22 murals, historic sites, festivals
and events.

Stony Plain offers residents and visitors a variety of unique and fun-filled ways to enjoy their day. The Town is committed to creating an atmosphere of feel-good hospitality. Take time to explore the Multicultural Heritage Centre featuring the heritage kitchen, the living museum at Oppertshauser House, Generations Art Gallery, the many quaint shops throughout the town, Exhibition Park, and the Pioneer Museum.
Stony Plain has an impressive list of recreational facilities and organizations to please the whole family. A full service arena is home to the Stony Plain Eagles as well as local junior, minor hockey teams and figure skating during the winter and numerous community events throughout the year.
There are a multitude of sports facilities to suit all age levels, along with many kilometers of jogging, walking, bicycle and cross-country skiing trails to enjoy. Add to that, soccer and football fields, baseball and softball diamonds, tennis courts, sports grounds, parks and playgrounds, curling rink, outdoor swimming pool, skateboard park, and BMX track. The Stony Plain Golf Course is a CPGA 18-hole championship course and a great place to cross-county ski in the winter.
The Transalta Tri Leisure Centre is a new $28 million facility that houses two NHL arenas, soccer pitches, indoor running track, children's play area, leisure ice area, meeting rooms, aquatic facility with 25m pool and waterslide, and hot tub, plus a fitness centre. The facility is a joint partnership funded by the Town of Stony Plain, Parkland County and the City of Spruce Grove.
The Stony Plain Community Centre, and Royal Canadian Legion Hall also offer a place to gather and enjoy the company of friends. Looking to explore the great outdoors? TOUR THE AREA
The Murals program was initiated in 1989 to preserve and celebrate our heritage. Today there are over 20 murals located throughout town. Created by artists from across Canada, these wonderful tributes range in size and scope, and depict the rich history of our community. Over 100-guided mural tours a year are coordinated through the Multicultural Heritage Centre. We invite you to join us celebrating our community's legacy through art.
Stony Plain's heritage landmarks are a main attraction for visitors to the community. Originally built in 1925 as a school, the Multicultural Heritage Centre attracts over 85,000 visitors a year. The Centre is home to a contemporary art gallery, local historical archive, general store, and some of the best home cooking around. Celebrate the rich agricultural heritage of the region with a visit to the Pioneer Museum. Open daily from April to October, there are over 1,300 artifacts on display, from household items to farm equipment.
Main Street Stony Plain is the hub of our community's professional and retail services. We have maintained a, small town' central core of business that invites residents and visitors to enjoy all the modern conveniences and services from boutiques - in traditional marketplace setting.
